Do you ever wonder what it’s like to be a City Relay host? Today we introduce you to Nick, who has been a City Relay host since 2017. It was by pure luck that he found out about us.“As I was walking in Earl’s Court, I passed by your Kenway Road Front Desk. I was interested by the services you seemed to provide so I walked-in to learn more about it.” This was the start of a great relationship!

Nick arrived in London in 2004. He quickly found a property in Earl’s Court which seemed to be the perfect location for him. “I loved this location because it is very easy to go anywhere from it. You can either reach the centre or go enjoy the country very quickly on both sides. It’s 15 minutes away from Hyde Park, but if you want to reach Victoria or Paddington for instance, it’s only 20 minutes by transports.”
Nick’s top picks? “I love going to the local restaurants and clubs that we have here in Earl’s Court, such as the Troubadour and 606 Club, where they play really great live music. However, there are many nice areas within walking distance that I would recommend to visit: Notting Hill, South Kensington, Holland Park, not to mention all the museums like the Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert or the Design Museum.”
Although Nick is a first-time City Relay Host, it’s not the first time that he has the opportunity to rent his apartment. “I’ve been travelling overseas for work for the past 9 to 10 years. For a while, those business trips lasted 2 to 3 months in a row, so I rented my apartment through a rental agency. And to be honest, I wasn’t really happy with the results. The occupancy rate was quite low, between 50% and 70% – and the fees were way too high!”
Before knowing us, Nick was looking for a solution to short-let his apartment whilst he was away for work. “Since I came back to London in 2016, my business trips were shorter, so I thought that it was more unlikely that I could rent my apartment. I knew about Airbnb but I didn’t see how I could use this platform, as I couldn’t be here to manage anything.”

With City Relay, Nick found a hassle-free solution to earn extra income from his property without lifting a finger. “Ever since I began using the service, City Relay has been doing a fantastic job. Last year, I had 2 business trips that allowed me to short-let my flat for 7 weeks and then 5 weeks between May and September. Anytime I had a request, the host managers I’ve been in contact with showed fantastic responsiveness. It was really easy to reach them and to keep in touch. The operations team were ultra efficient to organise everything.”
“There are two things that I really appreciate. First, the fact that bookings are managed very carefully. Some bookings were cancelled because the teams thought that the guests were not appropriate and could cause me some damage. I also loved the fact that every aspect of the service is taken in charge. The reservation platform is very convenient to have a look on my bookings, the cleaners are truly professional … everything is going very smoothly!”
