Guest travel tips | December 31, 2019
Every month our team welcome new hosts and their beautiful London homes and this December has been no different. New hosts with travel plans over the New Year are offering their homes to London visitors to meet increased demand this holiday season and on into 2020.
There are too many amazing new homes to showcase all of them here, but we’ve selected just a few of our favourites to share with you and the reason why we’ve fallen in love with them.
This newly-built spacious three-bedroom apartment is conveniently located a mere three-minute walk from Paddington station, giving you a journey time of approximately 20 minutes from Heathrow airport to your accommodation. The top-floor apartment comfortably sleeps six adults and boasts two bathrooms and a large balcony. With Paddington Station right on your doorstep, you can quickly and easily travel across London by bus, underground or train. There’s also plenty to do in the local neighbourhood and an abundance of dining and drinking options. These include floating restaurants on the nearby Grand Union Canal and Pergola Paddington with its upmarket artisan food market feel. With a well-appointed eat-in kitchen at your disposal, you could buy delicious fresh produce at the Marylebone Farmers’ Market that runs each Sunday and cook up a feast in the comfort of your apartment.
Our local area recommendation: Sherlock fans should pay a visit to 221b Baker Street, the home of the fictional detective where you’ll find a museum dedicated to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous character. The museum is a 20-minute walk from the apartment.
Just four miles north-west of Central London, Hampstead Heath is one of London’s most loved green spaces, and the surrounding area is well-served by restaurants, pubs, shops and cafes. A short walk from Hampstead Heath is this charming one-bedroom apartment located within a converted red brick victorian house on a quiet street. The beautifully modernised apartment has lost none of its character or charm with features such as fireplaces and window seats throughout the property. However, it’s the private terrace, perfect for languishing on warm days over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine that we love the most. We can’t think of a better way to unwind after a bracing swim in the bathing ponds on the heath. Or after a visit to the historic home of John Keats which is now a museum dedicated to the romantic poet’s memory.
Our local area recommendation: Highgate Cemetery is a 15-minute uphill walk from the apartment and is the final resting place of a diverse group of famous people from Karl Marx to Malcolm McLaren. Take a guided tour or wander through the tree-shaded grounds knowing you’ll be rewarded with a downhill walk back to your apartment.
Knightsbridge is a shopper’s paradise and never more so than in January and July when the sales are on, and there are plenty of bargains to be had. This stylish interior-designed one-bedroom apartment is moments away from the high-end boutiques on Sloane Street. Whatever you’re in the market to buy you’re sure to find a purveyor in the local area and the luxury department store Harrods a few minutes from the apartment has the motto ‘All things for all people’. Back at the apartment, you can put your feet up on the oversized sofa and take a well-earned break before you journey out for the evening. You’re spoilt for choice for places to wine and dine locally as well as theatres, museums and live entertainment. Thankfully, you’ve got an ultra-comfortable bed to fall into once you’re back at the apartment.
Our local area recommendation: For a special occasion, nothing beats dinner at the French restaurant, Petrus. Owned by Gordon Ramsey, Petrus has held one Michelin star since 2011 and will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2020. The A La Carte menu features pate and parfait, confit egg and Cornish cod paired with wonderful wines.
Travelling with little ones can be stressful, especially if you have a baby in tow. This large family-friendly house in Shepherd’s Bush has a fully-kitted out nursery so you can leave the travel cot at home. At 110 sqm/1184 sqft, there’s plenty of room for a family to spread out, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a terraced garden. The house is situated less than ten minutes walk from Shepherd’s Bush Market Underground Station giving you easy access to London’s sights. Even closer to home are several supermarkets so you can stock up on all the family’s favourites to keep tempers and tantrums at bay. Bush Hall, a few minutes walk away from the house, is a 1900s dancehall and now a venue for live music, comedy and cabaret. Treat yourself to a babysitter and check out what’s on one evening. And while it may not appear family-friendly from the outside, the Bush Hall Dining Room next door features a kid’s menu that includes a build-their-own-breakfast for under-12’s.
Our local area recommendation: Wondering how to entertain the kids on a wet afternoon? Puttshack in White City is tech-enabled mini-golf that removes the need for someone in your group to keep track of the score. Kids of five years and over are welcome to play with adult supervision before 5pm, and the venue offers a good kid’s menu.
