Now that London Fashion Week has drawn to a close we have had some time to reflect on how events in London can not only boost the level of individuals visiting the city but also the levels of interest in Airbnb properties. London Fashion week drew travellers from all over the world to enjoy the shows by international designers and the various fashion events going on around the city. But where were all of these travellers staying?
Historically, hotels have been the only option for people when they are searching for their accommodation in London. Hotels are great, but let’s be real they can be pricey! For example, if you are travelling as a family of 4 then you can expect to pay on average £600 per night for 2 rooms in a hotel. Airbnb is the answer to this. More and more travellers are becoming savvy to the trend of Airbnb and short lets as the answer to their accommodation needs. This is the reason that more and more property owners are considering short let as an option of making a decent amount of extra income over key events.

April – London Marathon 22nd April
Whilst the London Marathon only happens on a single day, 2017 saw 40,382 people taking part and up to 800,000 spectators standing on the sidelines! Whilst a proportion of these individuals may be local, more than 98% are visitors from outside the city!

May – Early May Bank Holiday Weekend 5th -7th May and Spring Bank Holiday Weekend 26th -28th May

June – Royal Ascot 19th-23rd June
As London starts to warm up, June is filled with some great events in London! We appreciate that Royal Ascot isn’t actually in London… However, statistics show that the level of people visiting and staying in the city over this period is much higher than usual. Many travellers will take the opportunity to stay in London for a few days and then travel to Ascot for a day of racing.
July – Pride in London 7th July
In 2017 circa 1 million people gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square to enjoy the annual Pride celebrations. London’s annual march is the largest pride march in the UK where thousands of people march alongside celebrities such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid to mark the anniversary of homosexuality becoming decriminalised in England and Wales. This huge mass of visitors is a fantastic chance to capitalise as a host by short letting your property.
The days are longer and the sun is shining. What better way to spend your days than heading to the Wimbledon championships and enjoying a spot of tennis (and plenty of Pimms and strawberries!).The Wimbledon championships attracted 473,372 spectators across 13 days in 2017. Although Wimbledon is slightly out of central London, it is important to remember that the spectators will be looking for somewhere to stay! Trends in the hotel industry have proven that spectators are not afraid of the journey to the championships from central London and the demand for accommodation is huge! This is a fantastic opportunity for short let hosts as hotels are having to significantly raise their price to meet demand and the availability of hotel rooms is particularly limited!
AUGUST – Notting Hill Carnival 25th-27th August
In August, the Caribbean comes to London and thousands of people flock the streets of Notting Hill for the internationally famous carnival. The streets transformed into a haven of brilliant sounds, colourful parades and rich aromas from the west. In 2017 more than a million people enjoyed the carnival over 3 days on the streets of Notting Hill. The carnival takes place of the August Bank Holiday so many of the visitors will head to the city for the entire weekend and your property could be the perfect city retreat for them once the festivities draw to an end!
