Top 5 tips to make the perfect welcome hamper

Written by City Relay

Making a thoughtful welcome hamper is one of the best ways to make guests say “wow”. Also, it will show your caring, hospitality and thoughtfulness. Guests will remember you and this will encourage positive reviews and word of mouth.

#1 Write a welcome card

Start by writing a warm handwritten welcome card. Make it personal and welcome them to your home like an old friend! This will make them more comfortable to reach out should they require. Keeping their concerns to themselves can lead to bad reviews later on, so try and pre-empt this by ensuring that guests are aware you are on hand should they have any issues. It’s better to deal with the problem immediately than to wait for a bad review! Your welcome card will highlight your passion to serve your guests but also your gratefulness that they choose your property and not another one.

#2 Provide a brief manual

Put yourself in your guests’ shoes by leaving relevant information for them in order to make their stay more pleasant. If your guests are arriving by car, tell them where they can park. Leave an explanation of how to use the TV, DVD player, heater etc… Also, don’t forget to tell them which day is the collection day for the rubbish. Leave your phone number handy on the keyring in case they have any question or urgency.

#3 Rules of the game

Make a brief guide to your property’s rules such as: do not wear shoes inside, do not put loud music after 11 PM because of the neighbours, do not smoke inside (because you have a wonderful garden for it), etc.

#4 Local recommendation

Share the best of where you live by providing a list of your favourite restaurants, bars etc. Help your guests to live like a local. Give them some local tips of places to visit in order to make them feel at home. About 90% of people trust friends or people they know for purchasing recommendations. You can use apps such as Roamlocal or Mapstr to make it online, it’s free and easy to use!

#5 Bonus for food lovers

Food is the way to your guests’ heart. Why not provide a  few snacks that they can enjoy during their stay without preparation. If you are a food lover, you can share your passion by cooking/baking a delicious cake for your guests. Cookies, muffins, cupcakes, doughnuts or whatever… Cooking a specialty of your city would be even better. It can be salty or sweet, whatever you prefer! 😉 Your guest will appreciate such a homemade gift.
